Collection Access Policy
- Positive identification is required for all prospective researchers. This will usually take the form of a driver’s license.
- To obtain materials, the Researcher Registration Form should be completed along with a call slip.
- All briefcases, portfolios, purses, backpacks, and other similar containers must be left with the reading room attendant.
- ALL Materials are to be used only in the reference room of the archives.
- No marking or writing upon archived materials is permitted. Extreme care should be exercised when handling fragile items.
- Use only one folder at a time. Use only one box at a time.
- The exact order and arrangement of the materials must be maintained. If any mistakes are discovered, please call it to the attention of a staff member. Do not rearrange the items yourself.
- In citing these materials, please cite the full name of the collection, the collection number, and the archives. Example: Mitchell, Annie. Papers, 1902-1929. KC Manuscript Collection 121, Archives of the City of Kingsport, Tennessee.
- The Archives Staff reserves the right to inspect any items taken from the Archives upon completion of research.
- According to Tennessee State Law (T.C.A. 39-16-504) it is a Class A misdemeanor to intentionally destroy, conceal, remove or impair the verity, legibility, or availability of a governmental record. Violators will be prosecuted.
