Diane Muriel Spoden Collection, 1965

ABSTRACT:
The Diane Spoden collection consists of one manuscript copy of “The Bookmaking Art” consisting of sixty-four leaves released during 1965.  In this work, Spoden detailed the Kingsport Press, Inc. company which was located in downtown Kingsport, Tennessee.  She included information on the company’s history, leaders, employees, and bookmaking processes.  This version of Spoden’s work was not a finished product and contains numerous proofreading notes written by Stewart Crosley.  Also, this version has more than 200 notations but neither footnotes nor   are included.  A closing section on the Press Strike by the Allied Kingsport Press Unions includes clippings and two drawings.  The work’s chapters are General History, Interesting Book, Men Who Raised the Press, Bookmaking, Employees, and Strike (Illustrated).
