ABSTRACT:
The J. Larry Poole Architectural Drawings and Papers collection documents Poole’s many building projects in and around Kingsport, Tennessee.  Most project folders include sketches and blueprints to describe structures; some folders include manuals and letters of correspondence to further delineate the building plans.  In this collection the 74 tubes contain rolls of blueprints and sketches, most of which correspond with the projects described in the folders.  Likewise, the photograph boxes contain photos that correspond with the projects described in the folders.

SERIES:
The J. Larry Poole Architectural Drawings and Papers collection is divided into five series arranged alphabetically. Likewise, some folders within these series are arranged alphabetically by content.  Other folders, as well as the entire group of tubes and photograph boxes, are not arranged.

Churches, 1935-1998
Contains blueprints, rough sketches, manuals and documents describing various churches.  The main projects include St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, Orebank Missionary Baptist Church, Grace Presbyterian Church, and St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church.

Commercial Buildings, 1940-1998
Describes various businesses though blueprints, rough sketches, manuals and documents. In some folders there are letters, notes, articles and photographs to further describe the building process.  The area business buildings include medical buildings, motels, funeral homes, shops, banks, farms, a natural gas utility, a city hall, and restaurants.

Personal Papers (Poole and his family), 1939-1996

Includes legal information, AIA membership documents, bills, vacation information, copies of birth certificates and wills, photographs of family get-togethers, notes explaining how to use the AutoCAD computer program, and various other documents.

Residences, 1940-1998

Blueprints, rough sketches, manuals and documents describe various residences, including apartment buildings.  Most of the folders and blueprints are titled by first and last name, such as these main projects: Jack R. Dyer, William S. Todd, and Jack B. and Laurie J. Brown.

Schools, 1948-1998

Contains blueprints, rough sketches, manuals and documents describing various high school projects.  A few middle and elementary school building projects are also documented.  Few of the projects involve building from the ground up; most are roof replacements and interior renovations.
