Biographical Note

Joseph Heller was a local businessman and musician. He owned Joseph’s Loan Office. The store, previously named the Kingsport Barter Exchange was established in 1933. Renamed Joseph’s MusicCenter, the store reportedly sold Maybelle Carter her first autoharp. Heller was instrumental in forming the Kingsport Symphony Orchestra and the Kingsport Community Band.

SCOPE AND CONTENT

The collection contains information about the Kingsport Symphony Orchestra and Joseph’s Musiccenter. Included are newsclippings, a postcard, and photographs.
