Kingsport Girls Cotillion Club Scrapbooks, 1941-1978

KC Manuscript Collection 239

ABSTRACT:
The Kingsport Girls Cotillion Club Scrapbooks consists of two scrapbooks which have some idiosyncrasies in dating: the first scrapbook dates from 1949 to 1960 while the second dates 1941-1944, 1946 and then 1960 to 1978.  As the names suggests, the collection consists mostly of newspaper materials: there are wedding and engagement announcements, articles which describe the Club’s social events, which are dances mostly, and articles which announce the new members and officers of the Club.  Wedding invitations, wedding pamphlets, and invitations to Cotillion Club meetings all are included in the scrapbooks as well.

HISTORICAL NOTE:

According to the information in the scrapbooks, the Club started in 1934 and the main intent was to allow single women a chance to meet, socialize, and do service projects until they marry.  The Club ended in 1978.
