Margaret Butler Collection, 1944

KC Manuscript Collection 62.  

ABSTRACT:
The Margaret Butler collection consists of one biography concerning Annie Mitchell, Kingsport, Tennessee’s first school principal.  The document was written in 1944 when Butler was working as a history teacher at Dobyns-Bennett High School, and Mitchell was in retirement.  Information contained in the biography concerns Mitchell’s upbringing and schooling, professional experiences, views on Kingsport’s development, and her involvement in the community.  Butler provided footnotes throughout the eleven page biography.
