Motel Demolition Negatives, early 1990s

KC Manuscript Collection 196

ABSTRACT:
The collection of Motel Demolition Negatives consists of twenty five color negatives taken during the early 1990s showing the remains of a demolished motel in downtown Kingsport, Tennessee.  The motel had a number of names during its existence; however, most people knew it as the Downtowner.  It was located on the corner of Shelby and West Center streets.  In 1974, the facility was called the Port O’ Kings Motor Inn and Restaurant.  In 1981, the motel was known as the Travelers Lodge.  Attorney Bobby Tate bought the building during the 1980s and renamed it the Kingsport Inn.
