ABSTRACT:
The Crackerjacks collection of memorabilia consists of a photograph, sheet music for “I Get a Kick Out of Kingsport,” a news clipping, and a bumper sticker that reads “The Crackerjacks Sang for Me.” Janice Treadway formed the performance group in 1974. When first organized, the group consisted of six women and was called The Singing Housewives. The following year their number increased to twelve, and the group became The Crackerjacks. By the mid-1990s membership increased to 16 singers. The group sang mostly upbeat spirituals, show tunes, and popular songs from the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s. In later years the group added choreography to their performances and a feature called The Message Parlor, wherein they would alter lyrics to suit specific audiences or individuals. The group had disbanded by 2002.
