ABSTRACT:
The Wednesday Club collection contains correspondence, histories, financial information, yearbooks, clippings, and photographs.  This Kingsport,Tennessee club formed in 1929 and worked to improve the community through various projects and activities.  To list only a few of the group’s activities, members helped provide Christmas gifts to the area’s needy, provided books to the local African-American school, and assisted in funding the educations of some female nursing students.  In addition to these activities, the club teamed up with the Kingsport Junior Welfare League to present “The Gay Nineties Revue” in 1941.  Photographs of performers and the event’s playbill are included.

Scope and Content:
The Wednesday Club collection has been separated into three series consisting of Administrative Files, Correspondence, and Miscellaneous.

Series I, Administrative Files, 1939-1984, Box 1
This series contains histories of the organization.  These are brief are not rich with detail.  In addition, there are some financial materials and a guest book.  The account book shows where money was spent as well as how much money was raised through dues and fundraisers.  The guest book provides information on who attended club activities.

Series II, Correspondence, 1934-1982, Box 1
Letters and cards in this series are primarily incoming although not exclusively.  These materials were sent by various organizations and citizens concerning Wednesday Club activities. 

Series III, Miscellaneous, 1937-1979, Boxes 1-2
Materials in this series consist of a few photographs of club members, numerous images of performers in “The Gay Nineties” along with materials related to organizing the event including a playbill, newspaper clippings, and yearbooks.  The yearbooks provide information on club members, leaders, and those who hosted various group gatherings.  Photographs of club members and clippings are from the mid-1960s to the early 1970s and provide information about group activities.
