Biographical/ Historical Note

Walter F. Smith. Smith worked at the Kingsport Press beginning with the inception of the company in 1923. He served as vice president of the company from 1934 to 1953 when he became president. Smith served as president of the Kingsport Press from 1953-1961. Walter F. Smith also served as vice-president and director of the First National Bank of Kingsport and was an active member of the Kiwanis Club.

 

SCOPE AND CONTENT

The collection consists of 7 portraits collected by Walter F. Smith. Several of the portraits are of prominent Kingsport citizens including E.W. Palmer and J. Fred Johnson. Most of the portraits are inscribed with a personal message to Mr. Smith. The portraits were found in the attic of 1118 Watauga Street, the previous home of Walter F. Smith.
