KC Manuscript Collection 82

ABSTRACT:
The WKPT / WKPT-FM collection consists of one editorial composed by either Martin Karant or Bob Ratcliff and possibly broadcast during September 1965.  The editorial concerned the actions of the WHY Committee in Kingsport, Tennessee.  WHY, lead by Reverend John Price Junior, was involved in making sure that Kingsport’s African American students were treated fairly in the school integration process with particular attention to athletics.  In the editorial, the actions and intentions of the WHY Committee are questioned and contrasted with the accordance of equal rights already achieved within the community.
