Job and College Info Center

Kingsport's Public Library offers a plethora of job development, career guidance and job location resources online and inside the library proper thanks to a grant award from the Office of the Secretary of State, Tennessee State Library and Archives and the U.S. Library Services and Technology Act.

The physical library collection includes over 300 books and DVDs, including guides to job readiness, online job searches searching and résumé preparation. Titles such as 150 Best Jobs For Your Skill and the Encyclopedia of Job Winning Résumés are on-hand, as well as tons of titles for those seeking college scholarship funding.

Titles even include self-help on acing college entrance exams, and advice on career options for those who may not want to go to college immediately.

Once your research is complete, the library also has special résumé preparation software on the library computers to assist in customizing a résumé, as well as numerous links to job search engines.

Online career resources include Ferguson's Career Guidance Center, with information on more than 3,300 jobs and 94 industries, including salary range, employment prospects and education or training required.

Meanwhile, the College Resource Online provides course catalogs from a number of schools as well as financial aid links, and a database of colleges and universities searchable according to majors, major, tuition, state, enrollment, degrees and affiliation.

The final piece of the online Career Center includes a Testing & Education Reference Center, providing online practice tests, entrance exams and licensing tests as well as full-text e-books covering the GED, ACT, SAT, PSAT, AP, TOEFL, LSAT, GMAT, GRE, MCAT, ASVAB and others.
