Joseph H. Watkins was born in Georgia in 1887 to John Watkins and Harriet E. Douglas. He married Hattie Baker and the couple was settled in Kingsport by 1920. They had three children, together; Joseph Wilbur, Helen, and James. Joe was active in Rotary and Hattie was involved with the Dixie Study Club and the Methodist Woman’s organization. Joe owned JH Watkins Heating and Plumbing on Clay Street with his son James. He died prior to 1967.

This collection consists of eight pieces of mail and commercial circulars received by the Watkins’ that Mr. and Mrs. Stubblefield, the new owners of 1206 Oak St., Kingsport, TN, discovered next to the chimney when they were remodeling. Of particular interest is a ticket for the Kingsport Rotary Club’s Golden Gloves Regional Tournament in 1948 and a shopping reminder card from the J. Fred Johnson Store.
