BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL NOTE

The Kingsport Community Concerts Association (KCCA) (also legally known as Community Programs) started in 1941 as an affiliation with Community Concerts Service of Columbia Concerts Corporation (now known as Columbia Artists Management, Inc.). The association was formed to promote concerts and various performances in Kingsport. The contract was signed in February 1947 and in March the association held its first organizational meeting. By April 7, 1941 the KCCA sponsored their first concert. The first concert was held at the Civic Auditorium and was a performance by the Cossack Chorus from Russia.

The Association received most of its funding through membership drives. The first membership drive was initiated by Harry P. Carruth and netted around 500 memberships. The association grew over time and was able to provide the community of Kingsport several performances of nationally known acts per season.

The Kingsport Community Concerts Association was officially dissolved in 1999.
