SCOPE AND CONTENT

The collection contains 9 editions of the Kingsport Mirror. James H. Quillen began publication of the Kingsport Mirror in 1936, cementing himself as the youngest newspaper publisher in the United States.  He sold the weekly newspaper in 1939.  Using the money from the sale of The Kingsport Mirror, Quillen established The Johnson City Times, a weekly and, in 1940, a daily newspaper in Johnson City.  He sold the newspaper in 1942 when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
