BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE:

Martha Byrd was born in Morgantown, North Carolina on September 25,1930. The daughter of Samuel Jefferson (postal employee) and Mattye Harbison, Martha Byrd graduated from the University of North Carolina (B. S. in History) in 1952 and from the University of Tennessee in 1976 (M. S.). A noted author and Kingsport citizen, Martha Byrd was the author of many publications including A World in Flames: A History of World War II, Saratoga: The Turning Point in the American Revolution.

Martha Byrd died in 1993.

ABSTRACT:
This collection consists of one manual typewriter owned by Martha Byrd, noted author and Kingsport citizen. It is a Quiet De Luxe Model and was used to type many of the author’s manuscripts,
