KC Manuscript Collection 51
Materials in The River collection consist of two film premiere tickets, a proclamation packet for Kingsport Premiere Day, and a film program. According to the proclamation, The River was the first nationally released movie to premiere in Kingsport, Tennessee. The combined efforts of the Kingsport Area Chamber of Commerce and the Hawkins County Chamber of Commerce resulted in this movie being shown for the first time in Kingsport. A substantial portion of the film was shot in Hawkins County, Tennessee.
