BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL NOTE

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Charles DeWitt Byrd Post No. 3382 was named for Charles DeWitt Byrd, the first from Kingsport to die in World War II. Byrd joined the navy in October 1940 and was stationed at Pearl Harbor on the day it was attacked. The Kingsport native and Dobyns-Bennett High School graduate was aboard the USS Arizona.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Charles DeWitt Byrd Post No. 3382 collections contains 5 large scrapbooks that document various post activities from 1970-1982. The collection also contains one box of information and memorabilia from the VFW Post.
