Sammy Kaye Window Display

Sammy Kaye (1910-1987) was a leader of one of the “Sweet” bands of the Big Band era. During his performances he would often call audience members onto the stage to lead the orchestra. This gimmick became known as “So You Want to Lead a Band?” In 1992 he was inducted into the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Though born in Lakewood Ohio, he had family members in the Kingsport area.
Munroe’s Radio Service was located at 215 Commerce Street.
