KC Manuscript Collection 111

The AARP Greater Kingsport Chapter 3109 Collection consists primarily of minutes.  There are also membership lists, miscellaneous correspondence and forms, along an award.  The local AARP chapter grew out of a project lead by the Kiwanis Club of Kingsport and the Greater Years Committee.  Milton Clemens led this joint effort.  A city-wide meeting aimed at forming a local chapter occurred on 20 September 1977 in the First Presbyterian Church with 110 people in attendance.  Collection materials range in date from 1977-1991.
