ABSTRACT:
The collection contains a guest book and a scrapbook kept by Kingsport Public Library’s Carver Branch which opened 11 June 1951.  The scrapbook consists of clippings and a photograph relating to the Kingsport Public Library system with a focus on the Carver Branch between December 1950 and February 1952.  The guest book was used apparently for special occasions and includes the signatures of Ross N. Robinson, Allen N. Dryden, and Col. E.W. Palmer along with many others.  The Carver Branch Library was built in the Riverview neighborhood prior to the desegregation of Kingsport and served the city’s African American community.
