Mrs. Margaret Wimberly Newspaper Collection, 1928-1996 (not inclusive)

KC Manuscript Collection 241

ABSTRACT:
The Mrs. Margaret Wimberly Newspaper Collection centers for the most part on the history of Kingsport.  The Kingsport Times-News articles include information on downtown buildings and the Netherland Inn, Kingsport leaders, and the Heritage 1976 Bicentennial celebration. Organizations such as the Kingsport concert band, the Kingsport Theatre Guild, Leadership Kingsport, and the football team of Dobyns-Bennett are included in the collection as well.  A dozen or so clippings feature the newspaper column entitled “Commentary” and are written by Kingsport leaders who share their knowledge of Kingsport’s past citizens.  Wimberly herself wrote a couple of newspaper articles; she also typed notes and descriptions of two speeches she had made.  Included also are letters of correspondence between Wimberly and the editor of the Kingsport Times-News.

Other than the newspaper clippings, this collection includes various publications: the Tri-City’s Sunday Post, Kingsport Business and Post Story Book magazines, and historical journals and calendars.  Note that this collection has no substantial amount of information on any particular topic listed above.
