Strand Theatre

Exterior view of the Strand Theatre located at 140 Broad Street. The theatre’s sign reads “Grand Opening Tuesday 11am Alan Ladd “Calcutta.” Although the Strand had been around for years previous to this image being photographed, the facility might have been having a reopening. In the next several months the exterior of the building changed slightly and a sign was added above the door on the right that read “Colored Entrance.”

The jewelry store located on the image’s left side was The Jewel Box owned by Nedd W. Cohen and Henry Lipman. The store carried jewelry, diamonds, silverware, luggage, gifts, glass, and chinaware.
