Friends of the Kingsport Public Library launches $1.5 million fundraiser

This week, The Friends of the Kingsport Public Library launched a $1.5 million fundraising campaign to help fund the multi-million-dollar renovation and upgrade of the Kingsport Public Library. The “Library of the Future” fundraising campaign is now underway and aims to help fund the first major renovation of the library in more than 30 years.

The City of Kingsport has earmarked $6 million to renovate and update the Kingsport Public Library, which includes doubling the size of the children’s area, installing a new elevator, and creating dedicated space for genealogy, teens, and children’s programming.

Though funds have been allocated to cover the construction costs, the Friends of the Kingsport Public Library are asking for the community’s help in raising an additional $1.5 million to take the historic project to the next level.

The renovation project will include many key improvements, such as

  • Doubling the size of the children’s area.
  • Installing a new elevator to ensure better accessibility.
  • Adding four study rooms to provide dedicated spaces for focused learning.
  • Creating dedicated space for children’s programming.
  • A dedicated and expanded teen maker space.
  • Establishing dedicated space for local history and genealogy.

We envision a library that is not only a place for books, but also a vibrant and interactive hub for learning and engagement. Every dollar donated during this campaign will make a difference in helping us achieve this vision.
