ABSTRACT:
This collection consists of four copied photographs of devastation caused by a tornado that hit the Cherry Hill neighborhood of Kingsport, Tennessee on 14 March 1933.  These images show damage sustained to Tate G. Crockett’s home and property.  The tornado caused the deaths of eight people including Tate Crockett.  The rest of Crockett’s family survived, but most sustained injuries along with hundreds of others.  The Red Cross and the Salvation Army established relief stations to handle the emergency, and local physicians worked through the night and following day to help those hurt by the storm.  Tennessee’s State Legislature provided $10,000 in aid to the victims.
