Dobyns-Bennett High School

Next to Dr. Lay (right)is Dana Swick, longtime superintendent of schools. Dr. Lay was principal at Dobyns-Bennett for many years. Aside from working as an educator, Dr. Lay worked as a government official, and as an author of both historical fiction and non-fiction. He served as Kingsport’s Vice-Mayor and was on the Board of Mayor and Alderman for a total of 12 years.
