The AAUW is the national organization that seeks to promote education for women after college. Members must graduate from an AAUW qualified college.
The Kingsport Branch received its charter on 23 December 1948. The first president was Joanne Allen. In its early days, the group held monthly business and educational meetings. As the focus of the organization changed, the group began holding both day and night meetings and combined branch meetings in the months of September, December, and May.
